If you haven’t tried this, you don’t know what you’re missing.

The popularity of the smaller 250-300 size quads has blown up over the past few months and i got totally caught up in it. They’re small, maneuverable and very, very fast. Strap CCD cam and a Mobius and a VTX on one and you’re in for a world of fun. If you can hook up with a friend or two with a similar set-up and an open or obstacle-filled place to fly — well, let’s just say you will never be able to get enough of it.

I started with an inexpensive rig from HK for a little over $100. I had a few items already in my parts bin to finish off the FPV part, a camera and transmitter as well as some Dominator goggles. After a couple of days, I was out over the fields around my house having a blast and learning how to FPV.

A couple of months later an I upgraded to a carbon fiber H-frame clone with more powerful motors and upped the fun ante. And last week, I took the plunge and and upgraded yet again to a full Blackout H-frame. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m hoping it will be here in time for Christmas.
