The folks that are doing the right thing to begin with, already knew where they can / cannot fly, with / without permits.

Anyone else that walks into a store and buys a drone, that have no idea about any of the laws, will still be doing the wrong thing.

I went in to the local drone shop in town and listened in on a conversation the sales rep had with a customer.
The customer stated he had never owned / flown one before and there was zero mention of any laws and no-fly zones from the staff.
I did the right thing and made mention of it to them both, to which the staff member said 'We don't tell people that sort of thing, it reduces or sales and it's up to the customer to find out for themselves' ..

After standing there dumbfounded for a couple seconds, I decided to pass on all the information to the customer.
Lucky I did, because he lives right beside the airport and he was planning on filming aircraft as they came in/out ..
He decided against the drone and walked out just as disgusted as I was with the staff.

I guess my point is: If the people selling the drones are not informing customers properly, the customer will never know the do's / don'ts .. :(

Good for you Sobodad for informing the buyer :t2030: just think how many lives you might have saved if he/she bought one and accidentally flew it into a private /commercial aircraft.

Nope .. Never went back ..

The staff attitude, tied in with the crazy prices they had on things, are just stupid ..

Everything was still boxed even the display models, and then when I asked to open one up for inspection they flat out refused.

As an example of price .. DJI Phantom 4 ..
The average online pricing for the base model is around $1200 (AU) ..
The store I went in to had the exact same model for $1699 (AU) ..

Unfortunately it is the same for all of the local RC stores ..
None of them willingly explain the laws surrounding flying restrictions ..
None of them have any form of notice in the store for customers to read for themselves ..
All of them are crazily over priced in comparison to online businesses .. (I'm talking 50 - 300% markup on some items)

I am amazed any of them are still in business ..
