I took the plunge too
« on: January 11, 2019, 01:25:58 PM »
Well I just ordered my belated Christmas present, a DJI spark. I just got the basic kit with transmitter, I figured if I like it I can always buy batteries later I see them on RC Groups from time to time.  Should be here next week.  :t2980: :t2980:

:t2980: Congrats Bigal on your new quad  :t2030: I do recommend getting a sensor/gimbal protector. I bought this one and it works great it snaps on nice and snug and will not fall off as the other ones do it protects the top, front & bottom sensors well worth the money BUT YOU NEED TO REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU TURN THE SPARK on I put some red tape on it to remind me. this is the one I bought off Amazon. BTW are you going to use your phone or iPad? if you use an iPad I have a holder that snaps on the controller if you want it you can have it FREE I had to buy a different one because I'm using an iPad 9.7

DONT buy this kind you'll be wasting your money it falls off and doesn't protect the bottom sensors.

 https://www.amazon.com/Accessories-Gimbal-Protector-Protective-Accessory/dp/B073QN434F/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1547457460&sr=8-9&keywords=dji+spark+gimbal+protector

this is what it looks like on my spark.

Your Welcome  :t2030: NOT to take you away from this forum but if you go on the DJI page and go to the forums there is a Spark forum there is a lot of good info on there. Once the snow melts I'll be posting a lot on this one. What happened to everyone? I miss all the regular guys on here  :t2321:

 :t2922:  Jeff   :coolguy:

BTW if you haven't charged the remote be very careful plugging the cable in it's very easy to bend the pins. Once plugged in mark the top of the USB with nail polish or whatever so you know what way to plug it in. HAPPY FLYING  :t2030:

Al,

I haven't flown any DJI quads besides the Phantoms, but I'll bet you will enjoy the Spark.  Post some video when you get a chance.

Happy New Year to all.

Will do Tom, I've heard people say not to fly it in the house but I don't know if I can resist.  :b0201:

Congrats Al. You will enjoy the spark and all of it's modes and things it can do. I have not played too much with it but have messed with the hand gestures and follow me modes a couple of times and it's really cool.

Have fun!

Thanks Mark, I'm really looking forward to getting outside with it. I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos about the Spark and it appears to do most of what I want. I am looking into building a Hexcopter with the Ardupilot type flight control  system and a 3 axis gimble for my GoPro clone camera, we'll have to see what road this whole thing takes me down. According to UPS tracking my adventure starts Monday.   :t2980: :t2980: :t2980:

Well it arrived today and it's freakin cool as s__t. It feels really solid, it has some weight to it, not enough to feel heavy just enough to feel solid. It comes with a kajillion manuals and most of them are 90% in Chinese or some other languages but what little they have in English I don't know maybe there's more information there than meets the eye. Well there are 3 videos mainly because I'm not feeling well so I didn't feel like splicing the 3 together into one. Here is video number 1:

Here is video number 2:

And finally video number 3:

Anyway, there you go, have at it and there will be more in the next few days. You can see my aquarium in the background, that's what I've been working on the past week or so. I let it go so far that it was a hell of a job to get it clean. I think all that scrubbing and cleaning wore my old ass out and that's why I became sick. (thats my story and I'm sticking to it.  :b0209:   :b0201:

Thanks Jeff, I hear you on the white s***, for us here in the Northeast January and February are where that's just getting started. I thumbed through the little booklets that came with it and there's a lot more to it than meets the eye so I'll have plenty to do learning about this thing.   :t2030: :t2030: :t2030:

I tried to read the manual what a joke the print is so small. I ended up looking on google and found the manual much better and easier on the eyes to read in normal print. just in case you haven't looked here is the link.  :t2030:

Thanks Jeff, that's way better than the manual they supplied. The more I tinker with this thing the more impressed am with it. Can't wait for the nice weather.    :t2981: :t2030:

OK, you have to be an engineer to configure this thing. I managed to pair it with the controller and connect my android smart phone both through WiFi and through the supplied cable but it was no easy chore. I'll try to do a video to show some of the features.  :b0708:
